Turn signal causing issues...

Hello,

I've spent the better part of today reading post across the internet trying
to match my symtoms with others, but to no avail...

Last night while driving I came to a stop put on my left turn signal, it
made one one audible click and froze on. I contined to make the turn and
the lever returned to its normal position, but the dash indicator stayed
lit. I pulled over for a second and got out to look at the lights and both
the front and rear drivers side turn signals lights were lit. I did a u-turn
heading back to my street, hit the right turn signal and it appeared to be
working properly from within the cab, but the left continued to stay lit. I
returned home shut off the truck and called it a night.

This morning I went out to take a better look at the issue. I started up
the truck, hit the left signal and it started flashing, however, now I'm
getting flashing lights all over the place.

When I hit the left (drivers side) turn signal, these lights flash:
- Left front panel
- Right front fender
- Right rear
- License plate
- Clock
- Radio
- Shifter
- Right front panel
- Right rear

When I hit the right (passenger side) turn signal, these lights flash:
- Right front fender
- Right rear

When I turn on the hazards everything inside and out listed above is
flashing.

I called a local parts store and they suggested the possibility of water
somewhere. So I pulled off all light housings except the front panel lights
because I can't figure out how. I didn't find any water.

The truck is a 2000 Tacoma, V6, extended cab, all options.

I made a mistake in my listing, sorry...

When I hit the left should read:
- Left panel
- Left front fender
- Left rear
- License plate on down is correct

Check your bulbs for the left turn signal. You most likely have a bad
bulb with a broken filament that is connecting the lights and turn signal
circuits inside the bulb. Replace the bulb and everything should be back to
normal.

Just to add another possibility . . .
I had a similar, but not identical, problem on my '99--with just the
right signal, affecting brake lights and cruise control--turned out to
be the five to four wire converter for trailer lights. Apparently
inside the module a diode went leaky. Clipped it out and all is well.

I didn't mention that my truck has 125k. I say that because I read
somewhere that when one bulb goes out the rest are certain to follow
shortly. I'll start this morning by changing out all of the bulbs and
hopefully that'll fix the issue. If not I'll move next to the trailer
wiring. Either way, I'll let you know how things turn out.

Another possibility is a bad or loose ground, causing current to backfeed
through other bulbs.

Hi Todd
sounds like you have a bad earth return at one of your left
indicator combination lamps the left indicator having no return is earthing
through the parking lamp circuits. More chance of it being the rear lamp try
bridging the earth of each left lamp to earth and when the park lamps stop
illuminating you have found the lamp then repair the connection possibly
corrosion.
