OOPS ! Help please.

I got my power steering pump out of my '94 4Runner and got it apart but
have a small problem. When I got it apart I found a floating (?)
alignment pin about an inch long had slid out of it's hole onto my
bench but I couldn't see where it came from. :(

I can see the pin that's mounted permanently inside the casting and
think I know what it aligns but can anyone tell me where this other pin
should go? Should it be directly across from the permanent pin? Or
one of the other holes?

Just owned this for one year so no service manual yet and no help from
the Haynes book.

Well, I guess there may be very few people with shop manuals out there.
Or maybe the folks on this group don't work on their vehicles that
much? Anyway, here's something others may find useful. It's a link to

Finally done and in time for the Super Bowl too. :)

For anyone needing to rebuild their power steering pump I'd say your
best bet would be to use the above link and follow the directions
exactly. When I finished I had a couple of "O" rings left but, since I
didn't dismantle the sub assembly used to "idle up" I expect that's
where they were supposed to go.

The hardest part, for me, was getting at the bolt that holds the
tightening adjustment. Fortunately I had a "gear wrench" in 9/16"
(14mm for those with more tools than I) although the type with the
hinged joint on the ratcheting end would have been even better (note to
self: splurge).

My advise for anyone with moderate skills is: "Go for it". Just take
it slow and keep everything organized and clean. And good luck.

I see what you mean David. I think you're being directed to
[url]http://members.cox.net/stacewilliams/[/url] and the "ps-pump.htm" portion
has been left off automatically. If your computer won't send you there
perhaps you can add the ps-pump.htm in your search line (after the / of
course) once you're at the main page.
