1983 Transmission options

Here's the deal. I'm looking to get a whole new tranny for my 1983 4x4
toyota pickup. The only thing is I don't want to buy a regular/standard
transmission from toyota or any of the local toyota dealers. Is there any
other type of tranny I can get, like some type of performance brand or
something like that. Or basically anything that's better than these
standard transmissions and stock trannys from toyota?

Re: 1983 Transmission options

Ya mean other than the OEM ones that last 150-200k miles? Get one from a
Chysler minivan -- they're good for 40k if you take good care of them.

Re: 1983 Transmission options

I have a 1981 4x4 with a 4 speed, If I ever have problems I would put a
late model junkyard tranmission 5 speed. If you do, tell junkyard
fellows you want to pick out the truck it comes out of (the only way).
