Keyless remote

I have a 2004 Double Cab with a keyless remote and an alarm. I noticed over
time that the remotes would use up batteries rather quickly, 4 or 5 months.
Several times I had to bypass the cutoff to start the truck by putting in
the key and pressing the red button on the dash. Now I am at a point where
neither remote will work at all and the alarm will not set. I removed a
battery cable and when I put it back the alarm sounded for 30 seconds but I
still can`t get it to work with the remotes. Anybody have any ideas short of
going to a dealer ?
