water pump question

I have a 95 4runner, V6 3VZE 3.0, I am doing the head gasket fix, I have it
all apart and I am wondering about the water pump. There is a little bit of
residue on the lower end of the block. I wiped off the area and it doesn't
seem to be coming from the water pump. Should I replace the water pump
while I am there or take it off and check it out? I haven't had any
problems other than the antifreeze in the oil due to the failed gasket. Any
thoughts are appreciated.

Jim

Re: water pump question

If you're that far into it, CHANGE IT! It's cheap insurance and will
prevent you from having to go through all that trouble a second time
later.

Re: water pump question

I second that response, besides if the water pump freezes on you then you
will have to replace the timing belt also.. Oh yeah while you are there,
change that also.. Again good insurance...
