4Runner brake problem (odd)

Hi All,

My wife took the 2002 4Runner to a dealer to get the brakes done. They
were shot. Everything was replaced - pads, rotors even calipers, brake
fluid. Now it's a month and 2000 miles later, I notice vibration when
brakes are applied at over 40 mph.

What would cause a problem like this if these parts have just been
changed?

Thanks,

Igor.

What I really meant was, can this after only a month after everything
was changed?

Not to belabor the obvious, but it *is* happening.

It might be due to defective parts, it might be due to improperly installed
parts, it might be due to parts that were damaged due to driving technique
(e.g. glazed pads), it may not have anything at all to do with the brakes.

What does the dealer say?

Re: 4Runner brake problem (odd)

It is very possible. When everything was put together, if the lug nuts
were not evenly torqued it could easily warp the rotors. Also, if
everything was put together properly, if the hot rotors made contact
with cold water via a puddle, car wash, etc. could cause the problem
also. The most likely cause, when the new rotors were installed the
mechanic assumed they were flat and did not machine them. Even when
new, rotors should be machined to ensure they ARE perfectly even and
have NO runout. Take it back to the shop and insist they machine the
rotors for free!

Thanks All!

I would probably ask them to replace them, since I paid for the new
ones.

Oddly, the problem seems to be gone today. I'll keep an eye on it for
the next few days.

One thing is for sure. You don't want to have them fail and find out the hard way.

Tires that do not ever get rotated tend to do that eventually. Especially bigger tires.
If your tires happen to fit that description and turned out to be the cause then rotating them usually helps.
