86 1T 22RE Auto - Starting Problems Again

Hi,

Three years ago I had to fight this, now it is back (or it just hasn't
happened very much that I can remember).

I sometimes get a half second or so delay after moving the key to the
start position before it cranks. The other day it wouldn't even crank
a couple of times; I waited a minute or so and then it cranked (delay
still there). I have replaced the starter, battery, and cables a
number of times over the last few years. It is almost as if the
weather has something to do with this; the hotter it is, the worse it
is.

I have read some threads about the ignition switch, but didn't see one
about a delay. Could a bad ignition switch cause this problem? I'm
thinking of just picking one up to see if this fixes it. I have tried
everything else.

TIA,
Kevin

Hey!
Try replacing or cleaning the starter relay.

I didn't think this one had a relay... I'll check the schematics
tonight.

I hate to fork out $75 unless I'm sure it is the starter switch. Guess
I'll try to check voltage on the solenoid if I can get a "hard"
failure. In the meantime, I guess a wire to the battery will keep me
in business.
