Loud noise behind dash

I have a 1990 4Runner V6 4x4 with 388,000 km. There was a noise behind
the dash that was speed sensitive and very irritating. I had the
speedo cable replaced but I still get the noise and the needle jumping
around mostly in the morning. What else could it be? It took them 3
hrs to change the cable - not cheap! Please help!

3Hours!!! I replaced mine in under 1 hour. At home in the driveway. Not the
easiest jobin the world but pretty darn easy compared to most jobs. If yoru
needles jumping around Id try pulling your cable off the back of the speedo
and pouring some light oil down the tube while some ones spinning the other
end with a battery drill. Ths is what I did and sofar no jumping around and
quiet as a mouse. Found that the grease in mine had gone hard and no new
inner cables would help it. Took 1 1/2 hours whole job.
