1999 4Runner Motorized Antenna - No Worky

Finally had something go bad on me... I'd like to fix it myself but PLEASE
tell me it isn't as painful as this article depicts.....

I'm not against installing a whip antenna like this article shows. Has
anybody here done it and can a non-mechanic like myelf do it?! Can I just
yank out what I have and use a wire clothes hanger instead?!

'Fraid your shit out of luck doing that any easier, unless of course all
that you want to do is replace the mast, then thats 100 times easier.

Whats gone wrong with yours?

Doesn't go up or down. I assume I just have to replace the mast - but I
really don't know for sure or if there is a way for me to determine what is
broken. All I can say is that when I hit the 'radio' button, I can hear the
motor kick-in, but there is no action.

Sounds like you've stripped the mast cord.
Try unscrew the top off the mast and turn the radio on, it may pop straight
out. If this is so, go buy another mast (cost stuff all) and check to ensure
that the mast cords match up with each other for length. If the new ones way
longer but quite a few inches then your in the brown stuff as part of your
old mast is still inside. If they are the same, insert the new mast through
the top screw on part and then insert into hole until it cant go in any then
turn off the radio. This should pull the new mast in to the motor winder and
when its at the bottom you can screw the top part back on and your away.

Let me know how ya go eh.
