I was about to yell "Fuhgeddaboudit! You'll Never Pass Emissions!"
till I saw the Canada reference, they're a bit more lenient up there.
Still, there are enough differences between a diesel and gasoline car
to not start on the swap /unless/ you have done your homework, already
have all the parts you'll need tracked down, and you're pretty sure
you can finish it.
You have to modify almost every single sub-system on the car -
several different electrical things including dual batteries, glow
plugs, different ignition controls, fuel tank and plumbing, fuel
filter and water separator, transmission linkages, you name it.
Even the brakes - no manifold vacuum to speak of on a diesel for the
brake booster. You have to have either a Hydroboost system that runs
off the power steering pump or a vacuum pump on the back of the
alternator.
And you even need to change the gas pedal, or you won't have the
throttle control pull knob and linkage needed for warm-ups. (It works
great on gasoline cars too, to get a fast idle while using the winch
or other heavy electrical loads.)
The car isn't worth bubkis if you get stuck with the body all cut up
and the engine half swapped, even if you give them all the parts to go
either direction.
