I want more power!

I bought my 1981 P/U about three months ago. 2WD, 22R W/O Ac(I took it
off for more room). I was thinking about trying to up the power a bit.
I don't want the motor to get to out of hand. A carb and exhaust swap
is all I had in mind. Maybe a cam if that does not do the trick. If
you have done this before, give me some pointers please. Do's and
Don'ts if you will. Thanks

Re: I want more power!

weber carb and header probably 2 inch exhaust diameter is sufficient if
free flowing.Probably a 38 outlaw weber carb and be prepared to fiddle with
jets.Msd ignition and your stock pickup coil in the distributor sure doesnt
hurt for crispness (6A) keep High tension wires away from pickup coil wires,
use a ford TFI coil.Could put an 20-r head on the earlier blocks, but dont
know if you can run reg.gas.Mild cleaning and matching of ports.Stock cam is
pretty good for pulling.Better yet just pop a v-6 in there.Look at Downey
website.
