Gen1 what fluid do i use?

the owners manual says type f, computer at work says dex 3 but the 2 dont interchange so which one is it? cars a 79 with the auto w/overdrive

I used Dex 3 on my Mark II. Everyone I've ever spoken to has said that the "newest" Dex should be beyond sufficient for your car's needs.

I'd go with the what the owners manual says. I know the newer ones take DIII. newer Dexrons are backwards compabible and Toyota T-IV also works well if you change it over right but again, newer transmissions.

i felt i should just stick with the type f but needed to be sure. ive seen type f trannys in fords die quick with dex 3 in them. it is odd i but i buy type f for the trans, dex for the power steering
