try starting it while flooring the gas pedal. should cut the fuel pump and clear any fuel out of the cylinders. do that for 8-10 seconds then let off the gas. all the cranking could have flooded it.
Could be a number of things: large vacuum leaks, timing, various sensor failures. the engine needs 3 things at the right times to run: fuel, air (compression), and spark. pull the big high tension lead from the coil to the distributor and hold it near the fender (away from any electronics or fuel components) and watch while cranking...see if you get spark. after cranking, pull the plugs. gas smell is good. plugs that look like they were dipped in gas is bad. lastly, get a compression test. you can do it yourself, it's not hard. if you want to get more in depth, check ignition and cam timing.
