82 cress: last call! stalling issue

Well for almost Four Years this month she was a beauty.

But some stalling issue has separated us and well be divorced soon, ANYONE have a clue?

It stalls when it heats up and i cant get her started for three cranks then i get going after i give her gas, hustle her home before she stalls again...I removed the VCV valve, the egr vac modulator, plugged those empty hoses.

There are a alot of hoses and i sprayed a solid stream of water to find the leak but then it stalls and my battery gets wore down trying to restart.

id say its almost over but i dont want to, i have a pretty solid 95 celica available for 1000 to 1500 $

Last call....anyone in seattle/ this thing seems fixable until it makes its next 200K hiccup im losing faith.

When you spray it with water and it stalls, the hose you last sprayed is prolly leaking. try spraying something flammable to find the leak instead of water. try something flammable like brake-cleaner and go slower.

sprayed brake cleaner on all the hoses will try again in awhile slowly

where can i send you pics?

Spayed on the EGR valve.

BUT it ran for 25 minutes no stall..parked..

been focusing on the celica but now a bad alarm wont get her started..

According to haynes: Engine stalls: Idle speed not correct
Fuel filter clogged..changed already
EFI system not operating right
damage to dist cap and rotor. changed
Emissions system components faulty
valve clearances not properly set
vacuum leak at intake manifold or hoses
faulty spark plugs /changed

Coolant thermosensor can be the issue. Get 200ohm, 1 w resistor; remove the coolant thermo sensor connector and push resistor legs into connector cavities. If it starts and runs, change the thermosensor.

try something more volatile than brake cleaner. I tried it on a car at school the other day and it didn't work for crap.

I have a 81 cressida that had a similar problem a few years ago. Just like you, I tried various things with little or no success. I finally realized that there was a small filter (screen) at the inlet to the fuel pump. It was 75% plugged. After cleaning it, the stalling issue was resolved. Hope this helps.

2nd Generation

What usually do to fix our 3 cressida's is to open the boot, and reverse the fuel pump polarity, making it go forward or backwards, if youve got a spare working battery and some leads it is even easier, takes 5-15 minutes to unblock and when its done the motor should humm without and lumpy sounds, also check fuel lines and clean the tank out it might be really dirty
