The 15/16 is a little bigger than the 7/8, so the pedal will be firmer (which gives better feedback for a good driver), needs a bit more force from your leg and travels a little less than before. Generally a worthwhile upgrade.
Without knowing which Celica you have and which car you are getting the new master cylinder from, I can't say if it is compatible.
I can say that for pre 1986 Celicas there are only 2 bolt patterns (2 bolt and 4 bolt) and that all MC's with the same number of bolts were interchangeable. For my 1977 Celica I replaced the 4 bolt 7/8" MC with a Crown 15/16" MC. A friend put a 1" Hilux MC on his. Another friend put a 15/16 Mitsubishi Starion 2 bolt MC on his '74 Celica (many Japanese cars share brake component bolt patterns).
Make sure the new MC is in good condition. A brand new MC from a reputable brake company is not very expensive (about $100 here in Australia) and is a lot cheaper than an accident.
