Wheel size

cressidas came with 15" rims stock, what would be a good size upgrade with a 1jzgte engine upgrade without too much wheelspin but not too big to hurt acceleration and braking. ?

well first off it depends on how much hp ur engine makes and the type of tires u usin. the stock 15s would do fine with a tire upgrade unless u gunna do some serious racing with it then 17s-18s would do. also u may wanna do some suspension and brake uprades as well.

so i guess on stock power output and for hard street driving, a 15" or 16" rim with the correct, stickiest & widest tires i can get on 'em would be a-okay. wat are the options for brake upgrades ? i've done a little research, nothing deep, and i think the most popular one i see folks doing is skyline brakes, which cost lots of green here....IF you're even able to locate it locally. is there a toyota option for that ?

General rule is to keep the outside circumference of the tyre the same as stock.
Mostly this is to keep the suspension geometry the same and to keep the speedometer accurate (e.g. smaller tyres mean the speedo shows 60 when you're really only doing 55, larger tyres are the reverse).

If you make the rims larger (eg 17" instead of stock 15") then you have to go down in profile size. This keeps the outside circumference of the tyre the same.
The 17" rim with an appropriate tyre will squirm about less on the road (generally helping cornering) but will ride rougher (say bye-bye to loose fillings) and will not handle potholes well.
For acceleration and traffic light drags, the performance difference will hardly be noticeable if the outside circumference is kept the same.

14" performance tyres on my older cars are getting very, very hard to find.
15" performance tyres will disappear in a few years.
16" and 17" will soon be the smallest performance tyres on the market.

Other than that, it's just down to looks.

in back you really can't go much bigger. I've got 205/60r16 (stock equivelant is 205/55) which gives me the equivelant of a 3.73 diff from my stock 3.91 and it pretty much fills the wheel wells.

looks like lots of space but there isn't inside.

as for ride quality, the stock suspension is so soft there isn't much difference. My fronts are run SST run flats at 40 psi and with the stock suspension up front it rode great. just no sidewall flex around corners
