hooking up autometer gauge
hi there, i'm a new owner (4 month) of a 85 cressida MX73 with 206k mi. still run good with no engine problem. the engine is a 5MGE with auto tranny. i want to hook up a autometer gauge because that dame digital dash drive me nutz!! sometime it work and some tiime it will not. the only thing that does not work on my dash is the fuel gauge. it play dead sometime even at full tank or half tank of gas. i do not know if my other dash light indicator (low oil, hi temp warning and ect) work or not. so just to be safe, i got me a set of Auto meter Sport-compact with gauge pod to mount on my dash and monitor the basic stuff - oil pressure, volt and water temp. i also got the oil temp, and fuel gauge. (i got it cheap! all 5 gauge for 70 buck new!!!)
1.) where the hell do u hook up the oil pressure sender ? where on the block/ engine do i hook it up to? i clean and degrease the engine block and search the block and can't fine a place to hook up the oil pressure line. the chilton manual does not tell me anything.
2.) water temp - the gauge i got is a electric water temp gauge - not the mechanical one that are used on SB chevy/ domestic engine. my dash is a digital dash so i have to assume that it use a electric water temp gauge/ sending unit.......same as above, where do i hook up the temp. sending unit?
3.) now come the million dollar question. i also got the auto meter fuel level gauge and want to hook up to this vehicle. what i need to know is the Ohm. GMC/ chevy 1965's and up is 0 ohm = empty, and 90 ohm full, so what is a toyota ? i have not check this on my gas tank/ sending unit yet. not even sure it work or work right. chilton manual does not tell me how to check this?
4.) my dash also have a digital Tachnometer and want to use autometer tech. what is the best way to hook this up? i know some import car need a Tech. signal converter, not sure if this MX73 need one or not.?
i have not look into this Tech.yet, i just want to concentrate on getting the primary gauge install and make sure it work right. but since i'm here, i just ask what come to mind. i'm always been a chevy man and this is the first toyota i ever own. so any help/ advice is welcome. i'm new so bare with me guys
thx
