My 85's engine is shutting off then restarting while driving
Hi, I've got a 1985 Cressida, and for the past two years it's been very reliable. When I was driving it today from my moms to my dads (about an 11 mile drive) the engine just shut off on the highway and then started back up very quickly, maybe 1/4 of a second. Then, at a stop light I hit the gas and it did the same thing again. What could this be? I'm only 17 and have no money to pay for this to be in the shop =(. It's got 130,000 miles on it, and it is in good shape.
I've checked the main relay, it's fine. A consensus of the techs at my work (good thing I work at a dealership) is that it could be a clogged fuel filter (dirt gets into it, engine shuts off, dirt falls out, rinse and repeat), but they also said it could be many other things.
Does anyone here have any other suggestions or has had this problem? Thanks a lot for any replies.
UPDATE: Tonight it shut off for about 4 seconds on the highway then restarted.
