USA need help seo sick

i have a US version 1st gen paseo and i am having a problem with the tranny. When i have not driven the car for a while the car drives fine, but when i have been driving it for a while the tranny will not shift to overdrive. it is getting stuck at 3rd gear. i have an automatic. any help. thanks

Its probably coolant related, chk the coolant level, the car may have a bad water temp sensor in the radiator. the computer will not allow the car to go into o/d until its warm. If sensor is bad, the cpu will get a bad signal.

Is there a tranny filter and have you changed it? clogging will cause the problem, is there hard shifting.
