is there a really good reason to get a super loud horn?..or is just like yelling 'get the hell outta my way jackass' louder?

Sure there is, I don't believe the original can be heard over that cell phone stuck in her ear while the green light has been on a little too long.

For me the best bang for the buck as far as horns go are "Fiamm" cockle shells. They have got to be the loudest for the price, about $20 -30 for the pair depending on where you get them. They are the horns that Farari use.
I have a set on my motorcycle and am planning to put a set into my Tercel.

They look like the helles in the first photo. The Hellas and Stebel are good too.

Folks we have sold hundreds and hundreds of these Hella Horn Kits and never has anyone we know of ever had a problem with them. They just work great and are from a company that most of you have actually heard of.
