I have just been reading about the 2ZZ-GE Cilica / MR2 engine, has anybody tried fitting it into a Tercel?
180hp and 133ft/lb torque normally asperated ........... Sweet.

I've swapped a 2ZZGE into a '98 Corolla. It's a very fun engine that would do great in a light car like the Tercel... and it would own even a midly modded 4EFTE all day long.
And uh, it most certainly does not rotate the opposite direction
Dr. Tweak.
Do you think it would fit in the '89 body ?

We'll you've got plenty your way(4E's), Im sure you could always test that theory out, though I would have to disagree.
I guess it depends on your definition of "mildly modded". You're going to need a least a turbo upgrade (including injectors, fuel management, etc) and intercooler upgrade to even think about beating it. IMHO
Many things factor into the equation, power to weight ratio, driver etc. I have seen 250HP cars beat 300HP cars and 200HP cars beat 300HP cars because of minor factors that set them apart. The gap in power is not that much and the Tercel is much lighter. One thing I learned early @ Horsepower University is do not sleep on a swapped Tercel. An knowing that GT_REVVA boosted 250.9HP on a standard CT-9 4E-FTE Turbo...I have no doubt that the 4E will do just fine with some tweaking...but EH...thats just me.
UTA
P.S. the 250.9HP was achieved @ 20psi and "the only thing that was involved was the three T's...tuning, tuning, tuning" GT_REVVA.
I think he meant both cars would be tercels, not the corolla vs a tercel. So weight won't be a factor. The 2ZZ has a 45hp jump on the stock 4E but minor mods can correct that. However there's still a torque factor too. Owning a 20V I'm sure you can relate to that.
I much prefer 180hp from a stock N/A 1.8 engine than 250+ from a turbo 1.3, but that's just me. I like to keep it simple. Plus I believe the 1.8 will produce better torque at a low RPM.
It took me 3 months to get my 5E powered '89 coupe running. I think I'll wait a year or so before I go for the 2zz. I don't want to sleep on the sofa just yet. The better half was just as glad as I was when I got finished. She could get some attension again.
That wiring was a b!+(#. Mind you it all seemed worth it after I beat a tuobo 911 at the autocross on Sunday. I just love my Ter-seo

Eh....to each his own. In the Corolla its probably nasty and practical, in a Tercel....I think it would be more trouble than its worth...but thats me. Whatever you decided Donald...just make sure you take it to someone who knows his Toyotas and has a track record to back it up. Otherwise..you can link up with me and be down for the next BYP On Location Swap Meet again!
Thanks UTA. I won't be doing anything just yet though. ($-)
