Some help getting a 94 Paseo

Right now i have a '92 Ford Taurus, and I'm in college. Up the street from my house there is a '94 Paseo for sale for $2000 or best offer. I can offer about $1500 in a few weeks and my dad is giving me grief over wanting to spend money on a fun car than putting it into the college fund, his great contribution was to tell me to lease a car so I'll have reliablity at a low monthly cost. Essentialy I need a little help building a case to buy the Paseo, it seems to be the car of my dreams (Lotus Exige, also sports a Toyota Engine), or at least the closest that I can aford right now (Toyota Paseo), with the light wieght, snappy performance, type car. I know the money I'll save on insurance and at the pump will pay for the car in about a year, so if you can give me any great facts or some proof of amazing reliability I may be back on the forums to stay with a Paseo (almost got an '87 corolla a few months ago)

-The Taurus is acting funny (why i want a new car), I suspect the auto transmission, the Paseo up the street has a manual. how sweet is that.

Most of us go for 150 to 200K on the original motor and still have close to 40 mpg on the highway. The 94 has airbags and since I'm pretty sure the 92 Taurus doesn't in that year, it should be safer. Less weight means easier to stop. The insurance is pretty cheap. It is a easy car to work on with far less problems than any Ford. A Paseo is way cooler than a Taurus.

Thanks

Thanks for that feedback, just that one responce put a grin on my face

I plan to buy it now anyway if it is still there when I have the money, I think the Taurus is an alright car and being my first there are the memories and the spiritual connection. But, I figure in the long run I'll save money and I haven't bought anything for myself in a long time and with my birthday this Saturday and Christmas I should collect a few bucks to ease the transition.

I think the car looks sweet, and I gaze longingly at it evertime I drive by. Can't wait to own it.

My 92 has 196,xxx miles on the stock motor. Does not smoke. I average about 36 MPG lately, with almost all city driving.

My 93 is on the third engine, I bought it with a blown or smoking engine, I don't blame the car I blame the PO (previous owner) He did not take care of the car. My point is check the car real close, do some burn out s and power shifting if it can take that with no problems then it's prbably a good car to buy. I can burn them in second with the stock engine and I still get 40 MPG city driving, Oh by the way it's a way cool and fun car. The only problem is I loose it to my son in Feb when he gets his license. Having fun with it now though.Lance
