Help....

Hey everyone, just got one question. I have a 1995 Toyota Tercel DX with a 4 speed auto w/ overdrive. Everytime i accelerate in first and then the car shifts to second it gives a big jerk. It never does this in any of the other gears. What should i do to fix this? And is this normal?

Check the kick-down (throttle valve) cable adjustment.

It could be an accumulator piston (1 to 2 shift) sticking or with a bad o'ring. Either way you need to go into the tranny to fix it unles ,,,,,,,,,,,

Try some "LUCAS" transmision tune-up and see if that helps, if not ............ rebuild.

My Camry used to do that. Transmission rebuild fixed it.

LUCAS is always good. I will try that first because i got to change the tranny fluid anyways.

Don't be surprised if the tranny feels worse after a fluid change.
If the fluid hasn't been changed for a long while, what can happen is that the fresh fluid frees up the varnish deposits around the pistons that have been helping the worn "O" rings to maintain fluid pressure, then it starts Slipping.

If the fluid is low, what I would do is just add enough "LUCAS" to bring the level up to where it should be and run it like that for a few weeks or months, then do the fluid change.
If the level isn't low then you have no choice but to drain.

If you haven't used thet Lucas stuff before, let me warn you it is very thick and doesn't flow easily so don't plan on just pouring it in there, it will take quite some time to get it down the dip-stick tube so plan for that, it flows slower than honey.
