the 4age is gonna be a hellova lot more work than a 4efte, or 5efhe...remember you'll have to make a custom wiring harness, custom motor mounts, custom axles if you go with the 4age. UTA brings a good point with the 5efhe...that swap already has an upgraded intake manifold, with gains you could never get from a cold-air intake...also it has a performance oriented exhaust manifold, which right there alone, you're already upgraded manifold wise...plus it has forged rods and a higher compression ratio...if you just want to do bolt-ons, like not the turbo route...then a 5efhe will give you 110hp base powerplant and with cold-air intake and full exhaust, underdrive pulley... you would probably see 130 horse with a very sturdy base plant..
go to
http://board.tercelonline.com and do some homework on the 5e-fhe...it has a dual runner intake manifold, tuned exhaust manifold, forged rods, and 9.8:1 compression ratio, also larger cams(maybe just intake cam), but right there is a new beast
it came out of a cynos or seras, and corollas in japan i beleive
depending on how many miles you have on your engine, would determine going swap or upgrading...i'd say if your engine has over 150,000 miles and you generally beat the shit out of it...putting new performance parts is gonna really just make up for lost horsepower cause of the condition of the thing...
