hi-flow air filter venturi

Hi
I have just picked up one of those conical hi-flow air filters for fun, and I noticed when I came to put it on that there is a small vacuum pipe that comes off the air filter box and disappears somewhere in the vicinity of the fuel intake. There is no facility for this on the new filter, naturally, so I was wondering what this is for and whether I should just drill a hole in the new filter and glue this little vacuum pipe into it. Maybe the increased air flow will cause this to give a faulty reading to whatever it measures or connects to
Thanks
Phil

You may have to take a pic or follow it back to the source and then tell us where it goes in order for us to help. There are anywhere from 2-5 hoses that connect to the intake depending on year, motor, Cali model, you get the idea.

Fair enough. I can tell you it is not Cali, and it's a 91 with the standard 3E 1500 engine
