89 trecel carb issue

Frist off I'd like to thanks for this board.I've done some searching here and can't find the answers I'm looking for . So I'm posting .My son has an89 Trecel, 1.5 3E, and is in need of a carburater.Which I'm having trouble locating. This slide carburator is something new to me,and I'm a little uncertain, in dealing with this thing. Can it be replaced-simple- with something else?Another question I have, standing in front of the car on the left corner closest to you here is a hexogon shaped"cap" that seems to be broken, of maybe just loose. It seems to be mounted on a spring, and if you move it engine coolant flowes out of it. Can anyone tell me what it is and how it attaches.I kinda lost here guys, any help getting the car back up and running would be appericated.Bulldog

you can convert to a Weber 32/36 carb. it'll take a few adaptor plates or some custom machining and fabrication. the oem carb is basically a sideways SU carb. it can be a bear to rebuild and tune if you don't know what you're doing. for some reason, i can't remember what i did with my fully modified oem carb...i think i eother gave it away or threw it out.

So its an overgrown motorcycle carb lying on it back!HUH. I might just have to tare into it, just for the sake of education.I think for now I'll skip the weber option, and try the direct replacement option, I think I've found one in Florida(if it isn't was out to sea)for just shy of $300.Can you tell me is there anywhere on-line that hass a brake down of the carb? Thanks for the help.
