My 92 paseo is idling at 1100 rpm. It used to idle at 750. It's supposed to idle at 750 with check connector shorted, Idles at 1100 regardless. Can anyone advise?
With a Toyota... anything is possible, but that part is pretty good about not messing up. It could also be a temp sensor. If you have one that is bad it can change the idle. Also check the air temp sensor. This same thing happens to my car when ever I'm pass due on a tune up. But it also happened when I had a bad sensor that was caused by a bad thermostat. Like I always say. Lots of intertwined systems...
alright had the alt rebuilt and put back on, cleaned the old throttle body up inside with carb cleaner and reinstalled it, (took the one from the junk yard back off) tested after I found a broken vaccum line on the canister (repaired) now the idle is normal at 750 adjsted and the high idle when started is gone. So there must have been a problem with the TB.
kevin 74066, try removeing the throttle body take it apart acn clean with carb cleaner, even the water ports. air blow dry reinstall and see what happens. becarefull nut to mess up the gaskets or you will have to make some new ones.
good luck Lance
FYI new alts cost between 160.00 and 200.00 rebuilt is 65.00 to 85.00
Thanks guys will try cleaning out the throttle body. Would you believe that I took it to dealer and they said it was normal. They even lost the TB stop screw and the throttle started sticking. When I took back for the sticking they blamed it on TB. Replaced stop screw..... no more sticking. Don't think they know squat about the car. Thanks for your help.
Yes, The dealer probably sees very few of these old cars, and the new cars have changed quite a bit. Yes I meant Alternator. just some advice if you want to save money if your alternator goes. It takes alittle longer to get the alt back but close to 100.00 in savings.
when you clean it up don't forget to remove the adjustment screw on top and clean in there. now it took abit of adjusting becasue it acted different when cold. so once warm I adjusted the butterfly to about 600 rpms then set the idle screw to 800 rpms seems to run good. The idles at 600 was to low and tried to die at stop lights and such.
