TBI Leaking Fuel

My friend's 93 Tercel (not sure which motor in it) has been having a problem with hard starting. It seems to be after it sits for some time, like over night or a few hours. When he starts to crank it you can smell gas, like it's flooding. I suspect that fuel is leaking past the throttle body injector down into the intake and cylinders (I didn't get to look at it but he says it's TBI). Is this possible and what would cause it? He tried running some fuel injection cleaner through but it didn't help. I suggested trying some Marvel Mystery Oil thinkig it might free up anything sticking. He passed on that one but did try another can of cleaner and it seems better but it has been colder at night and might be starting easier in an overly rich condition because of the lower temperature. The car had been sitting last winter for a couple of months but was driven all summer with no problem.

Check your injector o-rings and gaskets. Fuel could be seeping out of the old seals until the engine warms.

If you smell fuel something is wrong for sure. Tercels didn't come with TBI though. The injectors are in the intake manifold right at the cylinder head. They are fed by a rail and the rail is fed by a hose from the filter. Where the hose attaches are 2 copper O rings. Check for leaks there and around the injectors. Also check the filter area to the left of the master brake cylinder.
Keep us informed on what you find.
