Hi
I believe I am looking for a 3E engine for a 1990 DX. Do not need trans (I have 5-speed).
I will pick up in New England or Northeast from Maine to Philly. A Paseo engine would work, apparently.
Have tried junk yards, Ebay, and Google. Need humans.
I was just at Harry's U pull it in Hazelton PA, and they had tercel engines just sitting there. Last week was an engine special, just $65 per engine! Regularly they are $90. I know they had 3 last weekeend before the snow storm, since I took the Thottle body and Map sensor off of one.
I just called Harrys. They weren't exactly friendly, and it seems they can't check what they might have in stock as they don't keep inventory. I said I had been told that they had some sitting around, and they said that they were U-pull only.
Rob, I see you live around there...how are they for their parts? Obviously I don't want to drive all the way down from NH and buy a blown motor, especially if I have to pull it out (if they have em sitting around for 65 bucks, I'll buy 2 I think!).
And for everyone, if I have a 90 with FI and 5 speed manual shift, what year engines should I be looking for and how can I identify the year?
Rob, mapquest only found a Hezelton Mills, which is over near the Ohio border...is that the town?
Allentown would be a better bet for me, coming down through Massachusetts, but without them being able to tell me what they might or might not have, I dunno.
I don't suppose they have engine lifts available down there, do they? Not something I have in my pocket, unfortunately
I found Hazleton. Not far from Allentown. I called them both. They have some engine hoists onsite, but neither place could tell me if they have a Tercel, much less one with a decent motor in it. I asked if they could be started up and run, and they just laughed.
Maybe I'll take a run down Only about a 6-hour drive.
Phil
I saw one Tercel in perticular that was in section D about the 2nd or 3rd row that looked good. The sections and isles are labeled on tthe cars. They only allow hand tools there, so bring a friend and a large cry bar! They do have engine hoists. I go there about once a month for odds and ends and good finds. There is another junk yard right next to them that also has engines for sale. I can't remeber the name of the place but they share a driveway together so you can't miss it.
