USA mpg for 1989 tercel

I just bought a 1989 tercel w/ a speed automatic with 52000 orginal miles. I would like to know what the gas mileage will be for city and freeway. And is it a good car? want it for a commuter car 200 miles a day, thanks.

I have an '89 but with a '92 Paseo engine in it. I get 30 mpg doing about 15 - 20 miles a day, of which about 10 is high way.
If your engine is tight and runs well I would say that you should get about the same or maybe better if you are doing mostly high way driving.

My '89 Tercel has a 5 speed manual tran. The best I ever did on highway was 36 MPG (US).

City is usually near 28-29.

I would expect these numbers to be lower for a 3 speed auto, especially on the highway.

After about a year you'll need valve seals if you're really going that far a day.
