DIY: Starlet rear disc brake upgrade

I picked up another EP82 rear axle because the SCCA said I couldn't use oversized rotors in my class. Bought one for a seriously low price, but when I showed up to get it I found out why. Worst one I've seen yet other than bent ones.

Here's a picture of a EP82 caliper next to an AE92 caliper.

Popping the cap off to remove the bearings I found more ugliness.

The grease and bearings looked baked. These bearings have been repacked before. All E body cars I've pulled rear bearings from had white grease on outter bearings and black on inners.

Put the nut back on and give it a snatch to pull the seal out with the inner bearing.

Then begin a clean up process.

Betcha you didn't think those rotors could clean up like this.

More to come in a few days..

The new rotors would set you back about $300 alone. I can do a lot of cleaning for that price. I rebuild alternators and stuff at an auto shop and have full access to many tools and equipment. First they had all studs and bearing races removed then were run through a steel shot blaster, then glass beaded, then cut true. Took about 45 minutes to do both. Next they get painted to prevent rerusting.

The axle bolts right in yes. Check importers in Canada to save money on duty fees.

I've bought/sold 4 of these axles so far. I highly recommend JHot for a supplier as they have had the best cared for parts I've personally seen. Jarco gets better pricing, but the parts quality suffers bad.

These should be pics of the last axle I got from JHot.

*And you've seen the Jarco axle on the top post.*

I kinda forgot to mention, but a guy from Statesboro saw this thread and stopped in my chat. He stopped by the shop afterwards and I showed him the Tercels I have and we bs'd around while I cleaned those rotors.
Feel free to stop back in anytime Justin. Let me know when you're ready to start modding your lil red Tercel. That 5speed with a short shifter and a factory tach will make it seem like another car.
