Exhaust Manifold Downpipe

Does anyone have a proven method for keeping the nuts on the exhaust downpipe?

Last night I was driving and the damn downpipe fell, and since my O2 sensor is in the downpipe, It snapped the wires to the sensor.

I've tryed lock washers and everything, and this will be the third time replacing the nuts.

Thanx everyone.

hey,

So the bolts are just loosening themselves? Im not sure how yours is setup, but mine came with studs. I did strip the threads though taking them out to change the gasket. Anyways if you wanna keep the nuts on the bolts use lock-tite, either strength will work good on a small bolt, actually I think there is three now.

good call, get the blue stuff...the other thing you could use is teflon tape...i think that's what it is. it's this tape that you put right on the bolt and screw the nut on and it locks and the only way to get it off is to unscrew it hardcore.

The nuts or studs might be stripped, not to the point of the threads being completely gone, but loose. This happened with my wife's Camry. Toyota used "one use only" nuts on some cars, and once you take them off, there are little barbs that make it very hard to get back on properly without stripping the nut or the stud. I chucked the original nuts and got a pair of grade 5 nuts and lock washers from the hardware store, and hadn't had a propblem since. That was 130,000 miles ago.
