rwd 93 tercel a possibilty

hello,
i am new and have a 93 tercel. motor is leaking like no other and both front brearings are shot. tranny is on its way out. i have been considering doing a 4agve 20 valve w/ five speed manual swap from a 93+ truneo. after some thought i have decided that maybe rwd might be the answere i am looking for. i love rwd, especially in a car with starting weight of 1998 lbs! if any one knows the weight of 3ee w/4 speed manual and all the stuff up front it would be a big help. i am going to use a 4agve and the rwd tranny 6 speed from supra or 5 speed from odler ae86. i am definetly going with irs from gt4 celica (i know it can handle a lot of punishment) and am also looking for weight of rear end if possible. i am a certified welder and it will be no problem making a tranny/driveline tunnel and stiffening the body a little. i am interested in weights because i want to make the car as close to 50/50 as possible. any help would be the best! thank you

RWD is hard to do you might as well try to swap the AWD drive train from the euro tercel. Don't let this discourage you though a fully modified tercel won the SOCA last year, it had a rwd convertion. not practical though. Swap in a 4efte get LSD and call it a day

i know a tercel won, but im not looking to duplicate that, i just want something different. i have a 87 subaru xt turbo that i am converting entirely to wrx. this is engine, tranny, and awd. including all suspension. the car weighs only 2747 with all parts. will pick up a few along the way, but 300+ hp in this car and awd, original. this is the reason i am thinking about the rwd conversion for the tercel. i am tired of all the 240 sr20, supra, and rxs out there. i want to keep everything original. just to prove a good car can be built not bought.

i am even thinking 1zz or 2zz. i just want to keep power to weight at a minimum. now i know sleeved cant handle the boost, but i love the idea of 1zz or 40 lbs lighter 2zz. rev happy all the way. besides i have seen 250-300 celicas out there. i think that should saffice.

ive always wanted a rwd tercel but think about all the work involved. drivshaft tunnel extreme rearend mods to house the differential, custom driveshaft, the wiring would be a nightmare...its easier said than done. If you want a good project get the 3sgte(i think) engine from the MR2. talk to tercel gts about this swap...ive also seen the 3zz engine(i know it was never produced) with a 1zz head and 2zz block..or other way around but im not sure

Like I said he can get the awd components, and then just disable the front wheels. the euro tercel (coroll 2) is built on the same platform.

i want the direct torque of a longitudanal mounted block and not the double loss of power caused from a trans mounted block. the tranmission on the awd has to turn torque 90 degrees then i turns another 90 at the rear wheels. i dont want this. i want the less loss possible. the other disadvantage is the torquing of a transmounter engine is the way it allows more engine movement from a traditionsl mounting, i would have to creat something i dont want in the first place. thank you though for the ideas. also the idea of a 2zz with 1zz head or vise versa is ok, but the 1zz head isnt any better when it comes to the 2zz for performance and the 2zz block is tons lighter. the 1zz comes standard at what 140, 160 hp, the 2zz is 180 and has a higher rev. both however are sleaved alum blocks and cant take a whole lot of bore. this is why i am interested in the 4agze or the 3sgte. but i have to rule out the idea of mounting a 1 or 2 series supra six way back and moving the interior to accomidate. this will be very hard but imagine a 600 or 800 horse power turcel. i would have to call it TRDcel. sounds weird though.

you dont even need to go euro tercel. you can just get the awd from a 1 or 2gen wagon... cut down the drive line, or you can always take the drive train out of a starlet....

the idea of a simple swap is what most are looking for and it gives me the feeling of been done several times. i am ruling out the idea of a transversly mounted engine and still hope someone knows the weights of the engines and such that i am looking for. if not i am going to have to the salvage yard and find some way to measure the engines, rear ends, and transmissions. i guess i am being lazy on this part because i know i will have to bust but to do the conversion. any help with the specs would be really really helpfull and save me bunch of time. when i get it done i will post it and the process. thank you
