Hello everybody, i have a EP-90 1997 Toyota Starlet, it shares platform with the 1997 Toyota Tercel, so i was wondering if it`s possible to put under the hood a 4A-GE 20 V Silver Top Engine. Anyone can tell me in case if it is possible what work i have to do beside, custom motor mounts, in order to put that engine. I`ve heard that i have to cut the frame rails, but i don`t want to do this. It is that real?. I want the silver top with an autamotic transmission, what`s your opinion? I`m writing you from Venezuela. Thanks a lot for yours answers
Check it out...custom mounts, tight squeeze but doable...
You would have an easier time and cheaper getting a 4e-fte. All the $$$ to put in a 4age you could have a 4efte making alot of power.........AND.............your car would have less down-time. If you want a 4efte, a front clip wouldn't be a bad idea, but you just need the harness, ECU, engine/trans, ignitor, map sensor, and stuff like that you know.
Then...you can modify your existing harness and the 4efte harness together, and there you go.
thanks you men, that post that you sent to me, encourage me to install the 4AGE, remember that my problem is the spare parts, and i don`t have problems to make customs motor mounts. In other forum have told me that i have to cut the frame rails, thing that i didn`t want to do it. Really thanks a lot, if you have more details, i`ll appreciate if you send it to me
as far as I know the wiring of the 2 harnesses together is difficult. You may be able to put 2 axles together to make your custom axles...like the inner CV that will fit to that trans, and an outer CV that will fit in your spindle...but you may have to have custom ones made, which will be VERY expensive...
I know you really like the 4a-ge, but when it comes down to it...the amount of $$$ to get a 4a-ge in there, you could have a 4e-fte making over 200hp
Thanks for the information¡¡. Anyway i have to make the wiring job because my car have a 2E carbureted engine, my gearbox is a 3 vel automatic transmission, so you can imagine how slow is my car. And you are right the cheapest way to gain power, so following your advice i `m looking for a 4E-FTE Front Clip, and i have found a Toyota Starlet EP-82 front clip, it cost is 1700$, vs a Silver Top Front Clip = 2200$. But i haven`t found a EP-91 front clip, so if i don`t find this i also have to make custom motor mounts, because there slight difference between EP-82 and EP-90. Can you see my mess?I`m gonna ask my mechanics about the price of the swaping cost. Thanks a lot. Anything i find i`ll post it
Jose, I highly doubt that the mounts are different between the ep82 and ep91. But if you know it for a fact, then I guess you're right. I would double-check that on www.toyotagtturbo.com. A front clip is a good way to go, cause then you get everything with it and you can see that it runs first. Good Luck with your project and I hope it goes smoothly!
Having done a carb to fuel injection swap, I can tell you the wiring is the hardest part. (it took me 3 months) If I was to do it again I would probably give the wiring job to Dr. Tweak, or Back Yard Productions. The best way to do the wiring I think, is to take all the wires loose from the harness and run them individually, connect them where they need to be and then re-wrap them. That is what I wish I had done. (experience is that thing you get moments after you need it!)
Buena suerte Josemata16
Keep us up to date with your swap and post photos when you are done.

Modification: Changing something to what you thought it should have been from the start!
I told you about the differences between Ep-82 vs EP-91, because i went to buy a brand new motor mounts for my Starlet and the shop guy asked me the year of the car, and told me that the motor mounts are different. So i really don`t know if it`s true. Any i`ll aks again in other shop and post it
