hi all. im lookn to swap my old worn out 3e-e for a 4e-fte. mechanically installing it i understand its a direct bolt in, but electrically im not sure. the eng is coming from a importer so its coming frm a right hand drive veh. what do i need to do to make this install? elec. wiring, mtr mounts, axles, down pipe, etc. thanx for any and all info.
You can buy a 'plug n play' harness or see if the guys at JHot can get you a wiring manual for the Starlet. The mounts are the same, exhaust is different.
Welcome to the board by the way.
I am thinking about getting the same motor. How are the Exhaust different? the manifols won't bolt on? Or the exhaust porst are in different place?
Looks like you a thing or 2 about this motor? Mind going to my Thread and see if you can answer some of my other questions about it. PLEASE. PLEASE. thank you
thanx for the info. jhot is where im getting the eng. so ill check with them. but if there are any other folks out there who have any more info i may need please pass it along. thanx for the welcome too. the 3ee still runs good it just has compression coming out of the radiator and dipstick tube and i have water and oil mixing. all this after iv changed the head gasket. but for 350$ for the whole car i cant complain too much and i drove it home one more ? will i have to change the exhaust manifold and down pipe or just the pipe? thanx for being patient with me. im a v8 mustang man so this is kinda new to me. my next endevor will be a late 80s to early 90s supra but i want this one for my daily driver with a kick
Where the pipe connects to the downpipe/cat is different. JHot is where I got mine also, good people! I'm planning to drop mine in friday night and see if my wiring has been done right, if so I'll be posting what I did in the DIY. As far as mounting it bolts right in and uses same axles.
We're planning for install friday night. There won't be time to take many pics as we'll have it bolted in there in under 3 hours plus the harness will be unloomed for a week or two as DrTweak suggested. I have documented everything about the wiring harness I've made though and will be drawing it for others to see, plus I'll have the drawing for future reference in case I ever needed to do a repair.
The way I did my diagram was to take a picture of every plug on the JDM harness, number them and put them in a book. Then wrote the colors/sizes of every wire and where they went. Another page was used for identifying splices. After that I took pictures of the NADM plugs that will be used. I glued a copy of the JDM plugs that will stay on the harness and the NADM plugs that will be swapped on. Then I drew the lines and labeled them with wire colors.
I still have a few wires I'm unsure of. I have high hopes they won't be needed.
i hope to see the drawings so i can use them as a reference also. as far as going to watch well thats kinda out of the quest. i live 2 hrs away and i have 4 kids. but i would love to. thanx to all for the info.
