Canada Oil and Oil filter

Hi all,

I recently got a 93 manual Toyota Tercel, and I need a noob advice.

First, I wanna change the oil and the filter, but I don't know which one to go for. Should I get synthetic oil or the regular one? I want to change it as less frequent as possible(I am kinda lazy ). The engine has 125k kilometers.

Also, I went to my local Canadiantire, but the oil filter was priced at 26$ canadian. Is that a normal price?

One more thing, the air filter was more than 20$, how is that price?

Thanks.

Hey,

Want the short answer, well I put walmarts super tech oil in mine (cheapest you can get, also its refined by quaker state or pennzoil, or there all refined by one company, cant remember but its just packaged differently).

I was lucky and got a buy out of oil filters (around 50) from kmart castrol gtx's for 10 cents a peice. I would reccomend buying a larger filter than the one that is reccomended for the tercel, there is one toyota car that has a 2.0 that uses this slightly larger filter that I would reccomend .....just cant remmeber the model of it.

Filter should cost from 3-7 dollars USD.

IMO the best filters are purolator pure 1 and Fram sucks.

Anyways, sure people will disagree with me, so if you want to do the research yourself and the long answer read the forums at www.bobistheoilguy.com

It only holds 3 quarts so I use the best oil I can get.
The MR2, Celica and Camry use the larger filter(S block cars).

True............but it burns about a quart every 400 miles unless you change your valve seals LOL

I've used Walmart's Super Tech oil filters for quite some time, along with Castrol GTX.

I'm looking at the sales receipt....

$2.07 for the oil filter { filter #4967}
$9.97 for for a 5QT contaner of Oil.

It takes three quarts to fill it. And if you add the remaining two qts. before the next change at three thousand miles or three months, then it might be time to look into why it's losing oil.

I'm in the process of replacing the valve seals on my '92, along with rebuilding the alternator and starter. Just waiting for the delivery of the final three valve seals that I'm replacing, which has been delayed somewhat due to the immigration strike last Monday.....seriously.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to getting it back on the road and reaping the savings from fuel economy. The entire cost of getting my tercel back running is probably less than what I'm spending a week on gas while using my other vehicle :Ford Ranger 4X4 that gets under 15 miles to the gallon.
