breaklight problem

i just bought a 91 tercel so far its a fantastic car aside from the second day i had it i counted 6 piles of birdshit on it and i got a stonechip which has started to crack, dammit!!

i have a problem with my right rear breaklight which stops working only with the headlights turned on. it doesn't look like the bulb is burning out.
has anyone had this problem and have any suggestions on fixing it.
i have yet to check voltage coming from the connections as well as the fuses.

Welcome to TN!

My daughter's 92 Tercel had EXACTLY the same weird problem. The brake light worked fine when the headlights were off, but wouldn't work with the headlights on.

The solution was to replace the socket for the bulb. Somehow it had become corroded inside, even though it wasn't visible. I got a socket for $5 from a junkyard, cut the wires to the old socket, connected the new one in, and problem solved.

Here's my old thread: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t90215.html

i changed a bulb already which deffinitly didn't look like it was burt out, when i did this i sanded the socket due to excesive corrosion on both the socket and bulb.

thanks for the input that sounds like it very well could expain the problem.

Bad connections can make cars do funny things. Welcome to the boards, hang around a bit.
