Have a 89 Tercel, with the not so great 3e side carb, collecting parts for air ram, has anyone had any success with doing this mod on this make and carb ?
Sorry man.. I forgot to read thew whole thing.. I thought you wanted an air dam... I dont know about ram air on our cars.. they seem to have a decent setup from the factory. I think the carb is a bit of a weak link more than getting more air to it. But that being said. ToyotaTeckGeek had sone some mods to his before replacing it that helped I guess.
i did an air-ram/collector for the Aisin OEM carb before. really seemed to give more of a torque-effect. i took the collector off of an old Cadillac and used some heater hose and a clamp to put it on the end of the OEM aircleaner. the scoop was fabricated out of wire mesh and fibreglass and was on the botom side of the passenger side engine cover. later, i used a Moroso triangle style foam aircleaner and fabricated an adaptor for the weirdo shape that the Aisin has. it was pretty good also but at high rpms along with some slight mods to the carb.
*damn! wasn't too long ago that i deep sixxed that modified carb! nobody wanted it and i had to make room in the parts bins for the 'extra' SC MR2...

I saw your pixs of one of your cars in an older thread before you swapped to the Weber and noticed the foam triangle. I've had this on a few of my cars in the past. If I wanted to replace my stock air cleaner (89 3E carb), as a start before I do the air ram mod, and disconnect the 3 hoses being used for it except for PVC hose, will that affect the carb's feedback control ? If not, great ! I'm buying.
yes. all you need to do is drill the bottom of the Moroso triangle thing and use brass fittings for the hoses. i did the ram air thing on the OEM aircleaner. i didn't have pics of that. be careful when using the triangle, the foam gets really dried out after awhile and can catch on fire if the car backfires.
