I recently purchased a 89 Tercel with 96100 miles for $600. I think I'm third owner. I have org. window sticker ($10,354.99 - sold at Hoover Toyota, Birmingham, AL)
It has a 3-speed auto. I really don't like it.
I would really like to put a 4 or 5 speed manual in it. Is this feasible?
I have to drive 30 miles to get to work - (Georgetown, KY plant) - most on highway and interstate. The poor little 3-speed screams on the interstate (sp. limit is 65 mph, I run at about 70.)
I've done it on a Paseo, on a 1989 Tercel it wouldnt be a big deal. Just make sure you have the right hole saw for the clutch cyl...... If you can get a whole donor car that would be for the best so you would have everything you would need. If you have to go to the wreckers make sure you take EVERYTHING, and check that shit twice, so you dont have to go back.
Is that 4e-fte tranny a 4 or 5 speed? Will it bolt up to the 1.5 Tercel engine and shafts fit? I know (and prefer) that putting another auto in my Tercel would be much eaisier.
thanks
