I blew my engine in my 96 paseo, and decided to swap in a 4efte instead. The swap is almost complete, but the passenger side axle is too big, because The 4efte engine/transmission i got came with lsd. What axle will fit into my car??? I can't find a starlet gt axle anywhere online, and my mechanic said he never even heard of the starlet.
I need help quick, he's gonna take it to get cut and that is crazy expensive. Plus I can't wait to test this new engine out.
Bolt in a corolla transmission until you get an axle. The tercel axles will work then and the corolla trans should be cheap. Check http://car-part.com for one from a 90-97 5 speed.
By the way, who made the wiring harness?

Thanks for the replies. I guess my best option is for them to cut the stock axle. But it should be done tomorrow or thursday. After the axle is installed and the stock exhaust customized to fit on the 4efte flange I'll be ready to roll!
TercelGTS - My mechanic made the wiring harness himself from the blown 5efe and the new 4efte.

......unfortunately, there's no way to say which cars came 5 speed. I do see em in the Junkyard all the time though....from 87-98 Tercs and all year Seos. the going price is $200 + shipping. I currently have one, one 4EFTE tranny and 2 5EFHE trannies with LSD ( though those will require a special passenger side axle....approx. 5 inches shorter than stock.....which I can get upon request)
Contact BYP, do NOT get an axle cut!
Also, check a dr side corolla axle. Should be a touch longer than tercel dr side and a good bit shorter than stock pass side.

The Corolla "A" tranny bolts up to the Tercel/Paseo/Starlet "E" blocks?
If that is the case, a "C52" tranny would solve my first-second power gap!

Ohhh!
My Tercel transmission doesn't have a removable bell housing. The shell is just a two-piece unit, split through the differential. So I would have to change the half of the shell that has the bell housing attached? Will it mate up to the other half?
I have read that you can just swap the first-gear-set from the 7A-FE or 4A-GE tranny into the Tercel/Paseo transmission. If I need to split the cases, it probably would be just as well to just do that.
Either way, I understand that shimming and torque/drag checking is involved if you want the tranny to last. I've got tools, but I am not sure I have all that would be needed for that.
( Oooooh!! an excuse to buy more tools Not a bad idea )
