3rd Generation Exhausting Question?

Hi all just curious on what exhaust muffler systems you guys are running. I made the fatal error of buying what i thought was a nice DTM angled square tip Stainless muffler. I had a complete 2.25 exhaust from manifold to tail put on my tercel 1.5 3e last night guy did a beautiful job. I highly recommend this shop. The guy is a perfectionist every factory pick up point used.

But I depart from my thought. This muffler though looking great built nicely etc. is the rattiest straight through sound I have ever heard out of a motor. Open exhaust would sound better! It was so noisy last night on PA turnpike from Willow Grove to Philadelphia that I was actually had ear pain from the sound echoing in car. I have actually 2 nice rugs in trunk and a full interior.

Can someone throw me an idea for a muffler that actually muffles the sound but flow better then stock. I actually to the point of using a full size car muffler on it but I would like a little sound or burble.

I even think the honda kid up the street would have laughed last night. He probably did since I know I woke the entire neighborhood up driving 2 miles a hour up the street. LOL.

It does not have to be another Chrome CAN muffler again either.

Thanks for your input as always.

On my car I have a 2" pipe all the way back with is a generic 2" the muffler, but the smallest can the the muffler shop had with that size bore. It is quiet enough but has a nice deep healthy tone. At some RPM's it gives off a bubbling sound that I don't like but I think that is from a bend that they put into the tail pipe to make it come out the back straight. I hear my exhaust when I step on it hard, but it is no where as noisy as the fart can that my son has on his Integra.

you could also go with a 40 or 60 series flowmaster
you will love the deep sound from that the 40 is generally louder and deeper than the 60.but the 60 is mid agressive 40 series iis what most of your mustangs use to get that loud rumbling noise.

Thumbs up

Well drove back to exhaust guy wearing ear protection in car to get it there. LOL.

Exhaust guy he does great work seriously if anyone needs new exhaust work done or mods to it let me know I highly recommend him night time hours and you can wait for it too. But I digress.

Well this is what was done bought a magnaflow super turbo 2.25 in offset inlet and center outlet. He grabbed a resonator from up stairs put it on after the my high flow cat. It PURRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Not a single muffler clamp under car all joints welded.

Idles great only time you really hear it if you snap the throttle or jump on it on Turnpike deep sound no raspyness.

So now my exhaust is 2.25 just under the exhaust manifold all the way back.

I am a happy camper.

Thanks fellow members you were a big help and Chriss my exhuast guy.

I have all the same 2.25" piping, high flow cat, straight through muffler but what helps with me and gives a nice deep sound is high flor resonator. Thy're pretty cheap except its gonna suck to have to have welded up all over agin.

I am currently running a Hayabusa exhaust (Motorcycle) and it sounds great. Very low tone but opens up nicely on the highway and at high rpms. I have also tried a magnaflow and that was a excellent muffler. When it comes to your exhaust, quality and brand name is important and worth every penny.
