Tercel Transmission Swap

I am interested in swapping out the transmission in my 1995 Tercel DX 5 speed. Will the 4efte transmission bolt right up? Is that the best swap to do?

^Why do you want to do this swap? The 5 speed is a good manual tranny for the tercel why go through the hassle and get a 4efte manual tranny?

Does the 4E-FTE gearbox have a taller first gear than the Tercel?
What about a limited slip diff? If it has either of these, it might be a worthwhile swap.

The gap between first and second gears in the Tercel and Paseo transmissions really hurts accelleration.

Yes the Tercel 5 speed is a great manual transmission.......for fuel economy. The car pulls ok through 1st and 2nd but it takes like 10 years to pull through third. I doubt I would get out of third by the time the quarter mile is over. I also have a Scion xA which is the same size engine but has 4.30 gears in it. It makes a huge difference in acceleration. That is why I want to swap out the transmission. It would be an easy, non-harmful upgrade, considering the car has 170,000 miles on it. Even though the clutch isn't slipping yet I still wouldn't mind replacing it, as well as the transmission.
