Hi,
I am looking at buying a 1992 Paseo. I have no idea what it might have as an engine, or whether it has common parts to other Toyota cars, as I generally run older Celicas. I don't want spares to be a problem, especially as it has 310,000 kilometres on it. Do any other engines from more common models fit? Are there any known issues? anything I should watch out for, any major rust areas?
Thanks,
John
It has a 1.5 liter 5efe engine. Most parts for it are easy to find, but be aware that the 92 is slightly different than the 93-95 Paseo that looks the same, but 99.99% of everything is still interchangable. Most 92 Paseos came with an undercoated chassis since the were actually made in Japan (unlike Toyotas of today), so they don't rust much. Mostly the rear fender wells, but not near as bad as a Civic. The motors had a slight change in 95-96, but most everything else in Tercels and Paseos up until the ceased production will work on a 92. You can also swap in a 1.3 liter turbo 4efte from a Starlet into your car with realative ease. Welcome to the board!
Hi, thanks for the response. Just want to clarify - are you saying that other Paseo parts from other years will generally fit OK, are are you saying that parts from Tercels will fit OK? Out here in Nova Scotia there are very few Paseo cars, I have only ever seen 2 or 3 total, so the chances of scrapyards having them is small.
Thanks for the undercoating info, that is good to know, and explains why the car looks so good.
Appreciated,
John
Yes, generally everything from other year Paseos will fit. There are a few parts that are slightly different, but they are parts that usually don't break down often. Everything from a Tercel will fit except engine and front brake parts. Tercels were SOHC until 95 when they got the 5efe DOHC DIS motor. The front rotors on a Tercel are smaller than the 92-95 Paseo. The 92 Paseo also has a two piece front seat belt on both sides as where the newer ones only have it on one.

Tercel body parts are not interchangeable with Paseos.
92-95 Paseo body parts are different than the 96+ Paseo body parts.
well yeah, i looked more into the 92 paseo...so the paseo started in earily in 91 in japan so they have 91 seo's then came over here in september of 91, so of corse its called a 92. once they realise how well they sold they made a deal with toyota and toyota started to make them "cheaper" for mass producing. corse the US got screwed and got screwed out of packages but thats b/c they were made "cheaper"
