last night i spent all night installed the twm short shifter. i pulled out my original and compared it to the original shifter and it was quite amazing how short it was at the top...but at the bottom i noticed that it was longer. so much longer that when i shifted, it would scratch the paint. i also noticed that the cups that came off my original shifter didn't fit the twm shifter. did anyone run into these problems? if so how did you solve them?
also my friend too off the spring where the "L" arm is and he forgot how it was before. could anyone take any pics for me or tell me how this spring fits in? also after installing this shifter kit, neutral feels so awkward. anyone else notice this?
My generic eBay Corolla short shift "cups" felt like cheap plastic. I broke one of them trying to remove them for greasing, so I broke the other one off also. My OEM ones did not fit, as you are describing. I filed the short shifter ends so that the OEM ones fit onto them. Lots of filing, with lot of sanding/polishing/buffing with some sort of sanding cloth my Dad had in his garage.
After initial installaion, it took alot more effort to shift. It was so tight, that I could move the stick from side to side in neutral, and it would stay wherever I left it. Now it is fine.
I'll try to snap a pic of the spring, if I cannot find one on here. I have a few spare shift mechanisms in my garage.
thank you thoughthard for you quick reply. my shifter at the moment will go to neutral but it stays where i left it. it doesn't move back into the middle like the oem shifter. as for the cups, i had to drill the crap out of mine because the oem cups were actually too small. now when i shift, the bottom where the cups go in stay slanted and it looks very funny. also my clip (spring) looks very different then in the picture.
so thoughthard, you are saying that in the future, the ssk will loosen and neutral will feel more like oem?
