3rd Generation Question of carburation?

Hi all found some info on weber carbs in general. Samples of carb to efi or the reverse.
Current vehicle is a 1990 Toyota Tercel 2 dr coupe. 80 k on the clock.
I am looking into a carb conversion but I am little unsure which way to go.

2 kits available are weber conversion kits
kits # K751 and K751-34
First kits is the classic weber 32/36mm progressive
second kit is a 34/34 progressive solex both come with all the parts need to install.
Pricing for kits are 34/34 for 290.00 including shipping
or 350.00 for 32/36 including shipping also.

Current mods on engine is a complete 2.25 exhaust from exhaust manifold down to back with dyno max super turbo.

Looking to do full tune up and bump the timing a a few degree's.
Down the road replace head full mod with hopefully a nice stage 1 or stage 2 style cam set assuming I can find them.

Further down road engine rebuild.

Wish to find out how far you can bore 1.5 sohc out too?

Thoughts or Expertice on this would be greatly appreciated

Pics of carbs below.

Weber 32/36 kit second

I had a Webber 32/36 progressive on my 82 Corolla amd was quite pleased with the performance. That would be my choice. I believe that one provides you with good economy in the 32 mode and all the necessary grunt when the 36 kicks in. Ofcourse the price difference is a consideration too.
Just my opinion, no facts to back it up.

You said you found info on EFI to carb conversions too?

I have an '89 coupe also. I did the 5E-FE swap.

Yes I am thinking same on the 32/36 too. thanks

Don was just some topical stuff on EFI to Carb most pooh pooh it. I was going to try it with my 90 miata I wanted a bank of side drafts 90 percent of the members on miata forum said why I think thinking out of the box is a little hard for Miata peeps and could not give me a defintive answer on how to accomplish it. Since I wished to keep my factory dash gauges but that could be changed out anyway etc. Miata distributar was a big issue. Fuel pump was no problem. I wished to have to look of a SCCA I think ITC class where they relagate carb use on Miata's. But Miata up for sale now so plans are the Tercel.

If that 89 Tercel is still at my U pull-it next weekend I getting the head off it for $25.00 I allready got the Intake off it and Exhuast manifold.

Plans for head are port polish 4 angle valve job and I like a nice cam for more umph but not so radical it won't idle on street. Maybe a stage 1 or 2 assuming I can find one. I know I have to be careful since I am working with automatic trans. I will be looking into how to add more or better clutches and modifying Valve body etc. To make it more beefy

I saw something about a shift kit for the Corolla tranny in the Corolla forum. Maybe you could find a kit for the Tercel.

I recently(early this summer) put the 32/36 on my 90 tercel, and have been pleased, but I just drive the car back and forth to work. I was able to find the kit on special for about the same price as the Solex kit, but it took quite a bit of searching on the web. (I think I paid about $280 shipping included)

Currently with 244K miles on the car I am getting about 28 mpg city w/o A/C, 26 mpg w/A/C, and approximately 38mpg/35mpg highway with and without A/C running. Much better than the old, leaky venturi that was on it when I bought the car.

Bionerd - My venturi carb on my 90 EZ just died. Was it hard to do the swap to WEber? can you please tell me what you did?

THanks - TonyG in NJ.

TonyG in New Jersey -

The swap was relatively simple. The mess of vacuum lines took a little while to sort out, but in the end, I just got frustrated and eliminated most of them. It seemed like most of the lines went to one side of the carburetor to the other side. I took about 2 afternoons to do the job. Day one was disassemble and note taking day. Day two was assemble and test day. Overall, I probably spent 4-5 hours doing this with all the interuptions. If you have changed a carb before it shouldn't be too big of a deal. Just take your time and make sure that you don't eliminate any of the nesseccary vacuum lines. I did, and it took me an extra day to locate the problem and plug the vacuum leak. The instructions supplied with the kit are thorough and deserve at least one read-through before you begin.

BTW- have you found a good deal on the carb yet? I just found the recepit from my carb purchase (it is at home right now and I am at work) SO I can at least get you the company I bought it from.

Hope the journey goes well for you.

I bought my carb from Carbs Unlimited (www.carburetion.com) back in April. I purchased the K751 kit for $299.95, with the handling charge, it came out to $305.94.

here is the link to the page with the prices on it.
http://carburetion.com/Weber/Dataresults.asp

The K751 (for Tercel 3E engine) is the second from the bottom of the page. Their current list price is $298.50.

(A direct link to the K751 kit, not just their price list)

Happy Shopping.
