Question Tranny Oil..

Hey guys..

Im finishing my 3ee to 5efe swap and im reusing my 4spd manual tranny.

Now, the question is what tranny fluid do i use? i went to the store and asked the guy which oil i use in the tranny and he said to get "ATF DEXRON III Automatic Transmission Fluid" he didnt even ask me if its auto or manual, so without thinking i bought it..

then i come home and thought to myself to check my haynes manual and see what it says because it was strange to use auto tranny fluid in a manual i thought, and for the manual tranny it says to use "API GL-5 75W-90 gear oil" and for auto it says to use "DEXRON II"...

So any of you guys used ATF DEXRON III oil in your manual tranny?.. whatcha think?

I think 3 or 4 quarts will do it (or was it 2 or 3???) Pretty sure it was 3 or 4!

3 will just about fill it. I'd get 4 just to be on the safe side. You'll need more at some point so why not.

For a automatic it calls for Dex II or III but you can use a equivilant to DEX like royal purple.

that trans seems to like a slight bit more than what it takes to 'fill' it. my hard 1st to 2nd shift condition cleaned-up after i filled it with RedLine MTL then i topped with AmsOil 80W90

the tercel 5efe (dis) is 75w-90 gear oil btw... and it only took me 2.5 quarts to fill up my tranny with mobil 1 synthetic gear oil btw, going synthetic made a great improvent in shifting.... its a lot smoother and easier to get into gear in the manual it says the 5efe only needs 2.3 US quarts... so i dunno i got 3 quarts so that should be good enough
