It would take WAY too long to tell you step by step how to change it (that is what a repair manual is for), but if you follow the upper radiator hose back to the engine, you will see the housing under and behind the distributor. The thermostat is in the housing. Do a search on TercelOnline.com I believe I did a write up there telling you what other parts you would need to change it. It's not fun.

Okay, its on the right side of the block. But, it will be easiest to take the distributor out before you start just simply mark the dis and the valve cover so you can put it back in the same spot, or do it the hard way and fight with the dis in your way. Also when you put the thermostat in be careful not to over tighten the nuts or they will break.you can get replacement studs at most auto stores if you can pull them out.So be careful and have fun remember your car is old so the nuts and bolts arent as strong as they once were.Don't forget the RTV silicon its the blue stuff!

I agree, it really helps to have a repair manual. Thankfully I just updated my site with the information you seek.
