What kind of engines can go in the tercel wagons and have it not lose 4wd?

well I looked around on tercelonline and apparantly ant a series engine should work. I was wondering cause I see a lot of free tercel wagons around. ALso if my diesel swap goes well I would like to put together a car for my GF too.

I am kind of wondering if some of the C series engines might work. Like perhaps the 1c-t or 2c-t? I sm not sure the c series was available omn the US, I think the L sereies was the equivilent.

Sooo... after looking think about it... the last a series was the 4a-ge which came in corollas I believe.
When looking at the 98 corolla i was suprised to find this
XE saloon Sedan 4WD MT Diesel 2184 3C-E KE-CE116-AEMNE

WHy the heck is this car not in the states, I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

SO it's possible that the c series is eqiv to the a as the n is to the e. That would be really something for sure.

The next issue would also be size the 3c-e is 2.2L, 2c-III 2.0L, 1c-III 1.8l...
so then if the engine did bolt up... would it fit!? I really like the look of the 2c-t and it has electronic controls for emissions. The 1c engines seem a lot more common though.

I'm sure a 3S-GE or even 3S-GTE could swap in fine since I saw one swapped in an AE82 Corolla 4-Door Sedan. Then you may have to mod the bellhousing for the holes so that 4wd loss is not an issue, if you know what I mean....
