my 92 Paseo is overheating the shop replaced the the gaskets and the cracked radiator, the heat and fan worked the and the temperature was just fine. after a 15min drive from shot to my home it was over heating again. and no heat inside the car. after doing some research i THINK it may be the thermostat. if so where is it? can i replace it myself?
you can replace it yourself if you want...
not really to hard, get a chiltons manual to find out how....
its located almost directly under your distributor, but to the rear a little...
with a chiltons, its easy
Your car will never warm up if you don't have a thermostat. So if its cold where you are... well, your going to freeze. For as cheap as a thermostat is I would sure hope you would just put a new one in.
I didnt replace the thermostat cause it was in the middle of the week and i was on my way to class. It wasnt bad, the car just warmed up slower, still eventually got heat. If i remember correctly i never replaced it till the day i got rid of the car.

Its probably not the thermostat.
What gaskets were replaced? What about the radiator - where was it cracked? When they refilled the cooling system, did they bleed out the air in the system? No heat is a sign of low coolant. You're either leaking it out, or you have air in the system.
Did they pressure test the system after repairs to make sure it would hold?
Best case is they forgot to tighten a hose clamp or something...
if its a 92 and the thermostat hasnt been replaced yet, you might as well replace it anyways, i think i just bought min a 180 degrees f WAS 10 dollars and took maybe 45 min. to replace. also check the sensor that turns the fan on, is it turning on? you could also have air bubbles in the cooling system.
