for tercel, since its has already has a light weight, why not just put the 4AGZE on? you may hafto do suspension swap tho....
and also putting a big enigine like 3s-gte, you won't have enuff space to do regular maintenance like timingbelt change orwater pump change.
customizing is good but don't forget that limited work space can end up more money in the future
3S-GTE has been thought of many times, but I've never actually seen anyone do it.
Your best bets are:
4A-GE
4A-GZE
4E-FTE
Either of the 4A's make a good swap, but they can be tricky and expensive requiring quite a bit of custom work.
The 4E-FTE is a simple direct bolt-in and is capable of just as much power as any A-series block.
Originally posted by arknoid yeah i say go with the 4efte or the 5efte, but that has to be imported from JDM island and i hear its expensive.
Yes and no. There's already plenty to be found around here. They usually go for around $1200US for a complete front clip. Which isn't bad. It could certainly be alot worse.
"you can take the bottom end from the 5efhe engine, swap the pistons for the 4efte ones (these are decompressed to handle the boost). and then put the 4efte head on to your 5efhe bottom end and you have a 5efte engine. it has been done by a few starlet owners." (http://www.trinituner.com/opinions/messages/3877.html)
Is that true? Would this be cheaper than buying a real 5efte?
Technically, there is no such thing as a 5E-FTE. That's just the name people give to a 5E-FE that's had all the turbo components swapped over from a 4E-FTE.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of this procedure however. The 5E isn't built as strong as the 4E, so I'd be nervous about turning up the boost on it. Plus, the 4E comes with much better cam settings, and is capable of revving higher, so even though it's a smaller engine, it can still put out just as much power, if not more power, than a turbocharged 5E.
4e-fte is from starlet.. paseo comes with 5e series.. price depends on who will install it.. here in cali, there's el prototype that qouted me 3k on complete conversion to 4e-fte and manual conversion... it's pricy if you ask someone to do it for u.. i suggest ask a buddy who knows how to do it..
hp output of that engine, you might want to check backyard production and look specifically for project fire.. that has an upgraded turbo on it with its 4e-fte.. they said that project fire is about 250+ hp...
you can also see the sweet video they did with that car..
lets just say the other driver never see it coming, especially from a tercel..
ya byp is the shit they are going to do my 3sgte swap into my 92 camry they quoted me also $4600 to do the swap and rewire basically the whole car and convert my auto to stick using the tranny the motor comes with and a hks blowoff valve

So for a 5E-FTE it'd be, 5E-FE or 5E-FHE Motor, with 4E-FTE Pistons, & Complete Head, then of course the turbo, manifolds & IC. Did I miss anything or get something wrong?
What about just buying Forged Pistions, a 4E Head, Custom/tubular Manifold, etc. Everything kinda custom??
Thanks
(Sorry to post on such an old thread, but I was doing a search, and this is the info I'm looking for, but I still have some Qs.)
